Knockranny House Hotel’s Owen Hughes has won the prestigious Bar Manager of the year Award at the Licensing World Bar of the Year Awards, sponsored by Classic Drinks and Failte Ireland.

The official launch of Meetwest 2013 took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Regional Training Centre of Mayo County Council offices Castlebar. The two day business networking forum takes place on November 21 and 22 at Knockranny House Hotel.

If three is a magic number the third Westport Food Festival, which was launched this week, will put a spell on food enthusiasts young and old. Taking place from September 6 - 8, the community-based programme of events includes many new and some old favourites, with something for every pocket and palate.

LEADER4Enterprise is a nine month programme for new and existing businesses in the south and west Mayo area. The programme will be launched on Wednesday November 7 in Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, from 1pm to 2.30pm; and in The McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Westport is co-ordinating a number of ideas in preparation of The Gathering 2013—a year long celebration, which will encourage as many of the Diaspora as possible to return to the country, According to festival co-ordinator Dermot Langan, October 31 is the deadline for all ideas so that a calendar of events can then be prepared for the Westport area. Mr Langan said: “as Westport is the best place to live it is also the best place to gather.”

Mayo County Childcare Committee (MCCC) welcomes Inez Bailey of the National Adult Literacy Association (NALA) and Eleanor O’Toole of the Mayo Library service to speak at an information evening for parents on the topic of supporting young children’s literacy and numeracy skills. The evening will be held in the Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, on Tuesday October 23, from 7.30pm to 9pm, and there is no charge.

Rudi Rabasse boasts a 25 year term in the catering industry with a decorative resumé including time spent working in a five star hotel in Courchevel in the Alps, a Parisian bistro, a Michelin star restaurant in London, Roly’s brasserie in Dublin, and is completed by seven years spent as the manager of Kirwan’s Lane seafood bar and restaurant in the heart of Galway city. While working there he joined forces with owner Michael O’Grady and chief chef Mark Hopkins.
